I was reading Personnel Today and stumbled across this article about how
long work days damage your brain. The study, conducted by University College London and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), watched 2,214 middle-aged civil servants in the UK. Participants took various cognitive tests in 1997-99 and in 2002-04.
Employees that spent extra hours at work were found to have diminished cognitive ability and wellbeing. The longer the working week, the worse the test results.
So my suggestion is this: print out this article and post it on your boss' door (or laptop in my case). Then go to the pub and have a much needed drink.
